Day 3 of Senior Spotlights! Mary Reeder is a WCHS cheerleader!

“My favorite thing about cheer is the bond you form with your teammates and cheering on your school and creating an atmosphere of encouragement for those we’re cheering for. I plan on pursuing cheer during college starting my sophomore year once I get settled into the campus and get used to the school environment. I started cheering in elementary school since my older sister was a cheerleader, and I have loved it ever since! Cheer has taught me so much, not only physical aspects such as stunting and tumbling, but also how to lead and engage crows with encouragement. I have pushed myself to be the absolute beat that I can be. I’ve improved my stunting skills, jumping, tumbling, and of course being a spirited leader. My coaches and my teammates motivated me and encouraged me each day to improve myself. Honestly, I think cheerleading is one of the best and most unique sports out there. We throw our teammates in the air and catch them in cool positions, we literally yell encouragement at you, and we love to get hundreds of people in the stands to cheer for others. Win or lose, you’ll always have cheerleaders to cheer you on. My coach, Kari Doty, has mentored me throughout the past 4 years. She’s an incredible woman and I look up to her immensely. She’s been a huge factor in shaping me into the cheerleader and person I am today.” -Mary Reeder
