WCS Calendars

Here are WCS’s current finalized (board-approved) and draft calendars.  Typically, the finalized calendar is approved by the board the fall before it takes effect, while the draft calendar is reviewed and approved two years in advance.  Once board approved, they will be uploaded to this page.

What Guides Our Calendar Design

While there’s no perfect calendar for everyone, the Calendar Committee’s goal is to create one that is balanced, predictable and purposeful. Every piece of the calendar is designed with student learning in mind!

A few key things guide how the year is structured:

  • Time Where It Matters Most: The first and last days of school are intentionally set to keep semesters evenly paced and maximize meaningful learning time. Because important state and national testing happens in May, instructional days are scheduled to occur before testing season. This approach gives students the strongest opportunity to perform their best.

  • Built-In Breaks: Fall, winter and spring breaks are thoughtfully spaced throughout the year to give families time to rest and reconnect. Fall and spring breaks are each one week long, while winter break provides two full weeks to enjoy the holidays. This also allows students to complete their classes and exams before winter break and return in January refreshed and ready to begin new courses for the spring semester.

  • Flexibility: Snow make-up days and e-learning options help us manage unpredictable weather while keeping the year on track. We will only have a max of three e-learning days with the rest of the days being snow make-up days.

  • Teacher Learning Days: Three times each year (in November, January, and March), students have the day off while teachers take part in professional development. These days are approved by the Indiana Department of Education and help our teachers grow and collaborate to better support every student.
