Today, we are recognizing the special education paraprofessional staff. They are the "backbone" of Jefferson and work hard every day to meet the needs of all learners. They are the unsung heroes of Jefferson. Today we celebrate our amazing support staff. We couldn't do it without you. #WarsawUnites

Jefferson's 5th graders are caring for Giant African Millipedes, provided by the Fort Wayne Zoo. Students will be observing, attending to, and feeding their millipedes over the next few weeks, all while conducting a science experiment!

We are so grateful for our incredible Instructional Coach, Lindsey Smith and Admin Nicole Smith! With over 20 years of experience and deep expertise in the Science of Reading, Lindsey provides encouragement and support to our teachers every single day. 💡📚 Most recently, they went above and beyond by transforming our staff lounge into a warm, welcoming, and inviting space. Our kindergarten classes met Mr. Pike! He and Mr. Wall read a book and then we learned about circuits. Our kinders experimented with making a circuit through our bodies! We even used a banana to make a circuit! Our faces showed the excitement!

Some 5th graders came to our classroom to be creative! The importance of working together is a skill we all need to work on, it’s new to some of our kinders! Our 5th graders were asking great questions and guiding them along to understand the open task. Our fun creations had no rules, just use the supplies and create. We had a Statue of Liberty, a castle, friends holding hands and some creatures at zoos. #WarsawUnites

Each week, we feature a Spartan Inspires staff member. Today we highlight Mrs Hornaday and Mrs Terpstra. When a student was in need on the bus, they jumped in and supported the student. Thank you for your love and support of students. 💙💙

Our Jefferson Library aquarium has arrived, thanks to Lilly Center for Lakes & Streams!

Grace College student-workers Claire and Joselyn took great care in setting up the habitat ahead of introducing the fish to their new home. Students will get to observe a sunfish, two crappie, and the undisputed star of the tank, a channel catfish for the duration of the school year.

To say that our new fish friends are creating a buzz is an understatement! Students are already enthralled with watching every flick of a fin, and we couldn't be more excited for them to have this up-close encounter. Then during Digital Learning specials the week before Fall Break in October, each class will receive immersive instruction from Lilly Center educators. Topics are grade-level specific and range from learning to identify parts of a fish to the dangers of invasive species in our local lakes and streams.

We are once again grateful for this continuing partnership with Lilly Center for Lakes & Streams and the wonderful educational opportunity that it affords all of our Jefferson Spartans.

Our students are diving into the world of Lego Robotics, designing, building, and testing their creations to learn brand-new skills in coding, engineering, and problem-solving. 💡 From troubleshooting mechanical challenges to programming precise movements, they’re discovering that learning by doing is not only engaging—it’s exciting! #WarsawUnites

Plan ahead for a fun two weeks of Kindergarten Color Days! EVERYONE is welcome to participate, as we all can help reinforce the color of the day for our kinder-friends, wherever they are in the school.

While Field Day was far from "summer-y" this year, everyone seemed to have a great time. BIG thanks again goes out to Mrs. Monce for all of her planning, not only for this Field Day, but also for those over many previous years. It has always been a day full of smiles (and drenched children), and this year was no exception. 😁 ​ Special thanks to all parent volunteers, Winona Lake Grace Church for the use of their bounce houses and grilling skills, and to our Jefferson PTO for Kona Ice, which was a reward earned during last fall's Spartan Shuffle. #WarsawINSPIRES
