In recognition of Autism Awareness Month, Warsaw Community Schools (WCS) showcased an ARTism Awareness project at the board work session on April 9. The ARTism Awareness project showcases the creativity and talents of 21 students across the district and highlights their artworks at the WCS Central Office. The project aims to support, educate and advocate for the needs of every child.
Maria Demopoulos, WCS's Autism Resource Specialist, has served WCS for over 24 years. She plays a pivotal role in supporting 3-22 year old students with autism across a variety of settings at WCS.
During her presentation to the board, Maria shared insights into her role and the impact of the ARTism Awareness project. She highlighted the importance of building on the successes of students with autism and providing continuous support along their journey.
Maria shared, “This display highlights some of our talented students on the autism spectrum from across the district. Each and every one of our students has abilities to be a contributing member of our community. Our goal is to build on their successes and provide support to them along the way. I feel very blessed to be a small part of each of our students' lives and proud that our corporation believes in “All means all!”
