Warsaw Community Schools is pleased to announce that Brian Navarro, Class of 2021, received a Silver Key at the National level for the Scholastic Art and Writing competition. This award is the nation's longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens. Award selection is based on originality, technical skill, and emergence of a personal voice or vision.
Brian's work first received a Gold Key at the regional level. Nationals are decided by judging between all of the Gold Key winners. In the high school art world, this award is a big deal and quite the honor to receive. Brian's photograph is titled "Who are we."
In previous years, recipients were invited to the award ceremony in New York. However, due to COVID restrictions, Brian will receive his Silver Key medal through the mail. Brain graciously accepted this reality but added, " I would've really liked to receive that award on a podium to sense that feeling of euphoria."
Brian is enrolled in Kelly Morrow's Independent Study Advanced Photography Class at WCHS. Proud of Brian's accomplishment, Mr. Morrow added, "Those who want it, they can do it."
After graduation Brian plans to explore this art form further. Brian explained, "I want to study photography and have that career as a major. I truly believe it will work as long as I put in the effort. I also want to be a certified physical therapist. The human body and its functions draw my attention and even more when I get to apply my knowledge." Brian went on to share, "I've learned so many things from school and other places around Mexico and the U.S. but it's good to have the opportunity to learn from both countries and to teach what you learn from them, school wise."
Warsaw Community Schools would like to congratulate Brian Navarro on this outstanding achievement and wish him and the Class of 2021 continued success in their chosen fields.
