Edgewood PBL Math Presentations

Noel Heckaman, Edgewood Middle School Math Teacher, invited guests to watch and provide feedback to her students on May 24, 2022.

7th and 8th grade math students worked for weeks on a STEM project, designing and creating an estimate for the ideal middle school classroom to maximize student learning. Project Based Learning (PBL) is a teaching method in which students learn by actively engaging in real-world and personally meaningful projects.

Heckaman adds, "They had lots of creative ideas and all worked diligently." Project Based Learning engages students in learning that is deep and long-lasting, and inspires for them a love of learning and personal connection to their academic experience.

At the completion of the project, each group presented to their own class. Each class voted on the top project. Then, on Tuesday, May 24th, from 2:15 PM - 2:55 PM, the groups with the top-voted projects made a final presentation in the library at Edgewood. Guests were all impressed!

Special thanks to Steven Herr, Director of Design at Fanning Howey, who joined via Google Meet and generously offered feedback and insights to student teams.
