Edgewood Middle Schoolers Create Prosthetic Hand for Those in Need

Warsaw, IN- A group of classmates and their teacher, Mrs. Richcreek, came together to create a prosthetic hand for Owen Lewis, a student who has no left hand. Owen was also part of the team that helped design and create the prosthetic.
The students worked with Grace College and some of its students to design and create the hand. They used specific software to develop the design of the hand, then proceeded to print the preliminary versions of the hand, and then created the final product. There will be four hands in total with the latter three nearing completion.
Owen Lewis had stated that it was a truly great and inspiring experience which allowed him to gain new friends as well.
Mrs. Richcreek stated that, “Edgewood Middle School’s STEM Enabling the Future group looks forward to continuing its collaboration with the Grace College Department of Engineering to make a positive impact in our community by producing and fitting 3D-printed hands for individuals in need. If you or someone you know is interested in receiving a 3D-printed hand, please contact Edgewood Middle School.”
