Introduction

Warsaw Community Schools provides Technology Resources to support teaching, learning, and communication. These resources are intended for educational purposes only. This agreement outlines the expectations, responsibilities, and safety guidelines for students when using Corporation Technology Resources.

The Corporation’s computer network, devices, and Internet access are not public forums. Their use is limited and regulated in accordance with School Board Policy 7540.03, applicable laws, and the Student Code of Conduct.

Technologies Covered

This agreement applies to all Corporation-owned or managed technology resources, including but not limited to:

  • Computers, tablets, and mobile devices
  • Internet and network services
  • Email and collaboration platforms
  • Learning management systems
  • Online educational applications and services
  • Video conferencing tools

These guidelines also apply when students use personal devices connected to the Corporation network or while on school property or at school-sponsored activities.

Acceptable Use

Students agree to:

  • Use technology for educational purposes only
  • Never use personal login accounts on a school device
  • Act responsibly, respectfully, and safely online and offline
  • Follow teacher instructions and school policies
  • Protect usernames, passwords, and personal information
  • Use only approved software and websites
  • Ask for guidance when unsure about the appropriate use
  • Treat all equipment with care
  • Report lost, damaged, or malfunctioning devices immediately
  • Respect copyright and intellectual property laws

Prohibited Uses

Students are prohibited from:

  • Accessing, creating, transmitting, or downloading material that is harmful to minors
  • Circumventing filters, monitoring systems, or security measures
  • Engaging in hacking, data mining, piracy, or unauthorized access
  • Harassing, threatening, or bullying others
  • Impersonating others online
  • Sharing personal or confidential information
  • Plagiarizing digital content
  • Using technology for illegal activities
  • Sending spam or chain messages
  • Recording or photographing others without permission
  • Removing the school issued protective case from the ipad

Internet Safety and Monitoring

The Corporation uses filtering and monitoring systems in compliance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA).

Students understand that:

  • Online activity is monitored and recorded through Securly, the district’s web filtering and monitoring system
  • Filters may block inappropriate content
  • Attempts to bypass protections are prohibited
  • No expectation of privacy exists when using Corporation Technology Resources

Blocked educational resources may be reviewed and unblocked by authorized personnel when appropriate.

Email and Online Communication

Students who are issued school email accounts must:

  • Use email for school-related communication
  • Use appropriate language and tone
  • Avoid opening suspicious links or attachments
  • Communicate respectfully

All electronic communications may be archived and reviewed.


Social Media and Collaboration Tools

When using collaborative tools, students must:

  • Communicate respectfully
  • Avoid sharing personal information
  • Follow classroom and district guidelines
  • Report inappropriate content

All digital interactions may be monitored through Securly, the district’s filtering and monitoring system.

Personally Owned Devices

Per state guidelines, personal devices may not be used or connected to the Corporation network during school hours.

After school, students may be permitted to access the open Wi-Fi network, subject to availability and supervision.

When using personal devices after school, students must:

  • Follow all technology rules and the same guidelines that apply to school-issued devices
  • Understand that use is monitored through Securly, the district’s filtering and monitoring system
  • Accept responsibility for their devices

Security Responsibilities

Students must:

  • Protect devices and accounts
  • Avoid downloading unapproved software
  • Report security concerns or suspected viruses
  • Never share login credentials

Downloads and Storage

Students may only install software approved by the Technology Department via JAMF Student.
Students are responsible for:

  • Managing storage responsibly
  • Prioritizing academic files
  • Downloading content from reputable sources

Digital Citizenship and Netiquette

Students are expected to:

  • Use polite and respectful language
  • Verify information sources
  • Think carefully before posting
  • Maintain a positive digital reputation

Online actions should reflect the same standards expected in school.

Plagiarism and Academic Integrity

Students must:

  • Properly cite digital sources
  • Submit original work
  • Avoid misrepresentation

Plagiarism includes unauthorized use of digital and AI-generated content.

Personal Safety

Students should:

  • Never share personal information, including full name, address, phone number, passwords, financial information, or school login credentials
  • Use privacy settings on apps, websites, and social media platforms to limit who can view personal content
  • Avoid meeting online contacts in person without parental/guardian knowledge and written permission
  • Be cautious when communicating with unknown individuals online
  • Never share photos, videos, or messages that could be embarrassing, harmful, or used inappropriately
  • Report concerning, threatening, inappropriate, or suspicious content immediately to a teacher, administrator, counselor, or parent/guardian
  • Block and report users who engage in harassment, bullying, or inappropriate behavior
  • Understand that information shared online may be difficult or impossible to remove
  • Protect their privacy and the privacy of others at all times

Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying in any form is prohibited, including:

  • Harassment
  • Flaming
  • Impersonation
  • Outing
  • Exclusion
  • Cyberstalking

Violations will result in disciplinary action and may involve law enforcement.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and NLP Tools

General Rule

Students must rely on their own knowledge and skills when completing schoolwork. Use of AI/NLP (Natural Language Processing) tools is prohibited unless expressly authorized by a teacher. Warsaw Community Schools has approved the use of Skill Struck – Chat for Schools as its adopted AI tool for teachers and students when authorized for instructional purposes. Unauthorized use of AI/NLP tools is considered plagiarism.

Permitted Uses with Teacher Permission
With prior approval, students may use AI/NLP tools for:

  • Research assistance
  • Data analysis
  • Language translation
  • Writing support
  • Accessibility accommodations

Students must use these tools ethically and responsibly.

Student Education and Training

Students will receive instruction on:

  • Online safety and security
  • Protecting personal information
  • Cyberbullying awareness
  • Legal and ethical technology use
  • Responsible digital communication

Staff will monitor and guide student technology use, including through Securly, the district’s filtering and monitoring system.

Parent/Guardian Responsibilities

Parents and guardians are encouraged to:

  • Discuss responsible Internet use
  • Set expectations at home
  • Monitor student technology use

The Corporation cannot guarantee that all inappropriate content will be blocked.

Limitation of Liability

The Corporation is not responsible for:

  • Loss of data
  • Damage to personal devices
  • Unauthorized transactions
  • Inappropriate content accessed despite safeguards

Device insurance may be purchased at the start of each school year through ADP. Participation in the insurance program is optional and helps protect families from the cost of accidental damage.

Violations and Consequences

Violations may result in:

  • Loss of technology privileges
  • Disciplinary action
  • Suspension or expulsion
  • Legal consequences

Students are personally responsible for misuse.

Administration

The Superintendent is responsible for implementing and enforcing this agreement. Building administrators will provide training and oversight.
